Electrical News | Electricians News - News and Articles for the Electrical Industry News and Articles for the Electrical Industry - Electrical News / Electricians News and Information Wanted Here are ElectriciansForums.net (formerly ElectriciansForums.co.uk) we've tried a few times to get some kind of workable article system linked in with the forum software we use. We use the worlds best forum software, and opted for the worlds best 'blogging' (news) software, WordPress. We cleverly managed to hook up the two so that members of the forum could reply to articles we posted to the WordPress blog (electricians news site) - although it was clunky and cumbersome. And to be frank, people could tell it wasn't a forum thread and opted to see...
Trying to connect a 50 amp inlet box to my Siemens outdoor combination panel 200 amp cutoffs. Can’t figure out where to insert the 50 amp breaker since the 200 amp breakers appear to cover the whole panel. The panel has two 200 amp breakers, but want to connect it to just one of the panel breakers. Thanks.

Many domestic premises have one or more detached outbuildings such as a garage or home office/studio, which may require an electrical supply from the main installation for lighting and power. This article considers the use of the PME earthing facility in such detached buildings where supplied via a steel wire armoured (SWA) cable. Introduction Concerns are often raised when needing to run a supply to an outbuilding where the main premises utilises a Protective Multiple Earth (PME) earthing facility. In general, BS 7671 permits the use of a PME earthing facility to such an outbuilding. Where there are no extraneous-conductive-parts present, there is no requirement for main protective bonding to be provided in the outbuilding. However...
Hi all, ive found myself in a bit of a desperate situation here. I sat my compex 10 months ago and failed sections 01 and 04. I was meant to resit them a month from today but turns out I'm going to have to work away a week today. Anyway, the only date i could get for my resit is 4 days away and I essentially need to re-learn the whole course in just over 3 full days. The power installation - I can barely remember what the booth looks like. Im confident making off all glands but thats about it. Could someone PLEASE run through everything i need to do from start to finish including the pre inspection. Intrinsic safety inspection - I understand the layout of the exam, 5 answers for each section roughly with the correct area...

Bulb Energy, which started in 2015 and was one of the first providers to offer renewable energy at affordable rates, has gone into special administration due to the spike in wholesale prices. This means that for now the insolvent company is continuing to run as normal whilst administrators are brought in and the company sold at the appropriate time - if it can be. Customers will be transferred to another provider. Is it better to go with a bigger supplier or a smaller one at the moment? Should Bulb customers shop around or wait and see what happens? Have you got any advice for forum members affected by this and the collapse of other energy firms?

It was originally available on Amazon Marketplace but has since been removed from sale.

Merry Christmas from ElectriciansForums.net What a weird year we’ve had! We will need to keep our wits about us during these next couple of months, but I think we’re near the end of it all and at a place where we just live with it. London Christmas Tree feels the same as every single person in the UK. Tired and Scraggy. 5 Days to go until the big man climbs down the chimney. I hope you’ve all got your Christmas presents sorted out. You’ve almost certainly had some extra time off to go shopping. That said, we’re classed as essential workers. So things should have been a bit normal. I know that wouldn’t have been the case, but ‘normal’ doesn’t mean the same as it did in December 2019. That poor “Patient Zero” who got on the plane...

Parts of the country have still not recovered from Storm Arwen a couple of weeks ago and we now have another storm barrelling towards us called Storm Barra. With wind warnings across most of the UK and snow and wet weather across a large swathe of the country we are wondering if the infrastructure will cope with a second storm in as many weeks when parts are still without electric. This image below shows Storm Barra approaching! Have our members been working to restore power in places hit by Storm Arwen? High winds are predicted for the next few days with snow on high levels due to Storm Barra, have you got any contingency plans in place in case you lose power?

Want to become a qualified electrician? Look carefully at the training courses on offer to avoid wasting time and money, is the advice in a new campaign from electrical industry body The Electrotechnical Skills Partnership (TESP). With thousands of searches each year on terms such as ‘electrical courses’ and ‘how to become an electrician’, many people are at risk of taking the wrong training path if they’re not aware of the correct routes they should follow. Alongside the many training providers who are doing the right thing and offering industry-recognised qualifications, there are unfortunately some training providers – dubbed by TESP as ‘Rogue Trainers’ – who don’t deliver on their promises, presenting a range of courses which look...
On a mobile device click the menu then click install app. Done. You get push notifications amongst other things. Its a progressive web app not an app available in an app store. That just means its web-based and uses our hosting rather than Google or apples. But its largely basically an app.
The Electricians Arms is a private area on ElectriciansForums.net that only those who have proven they are an electrician, with lots of experience (and polite manor) can gain access to. There used to be quite a long URL for the 'Arms (our pub that allows lock-ins and will cut a get specifically for each member, so they can lockup if they're last in) but now I've just shortened it for us all. If you're visiting the forum homepage (so the web address you're on is electriciansforums.net ) you now just need to add forward slash "arms". So the URL will be electriciansforums.net/arms Makes it all a bit easier.
There was a dodgy advert, typical clickbait, showing "how to save 90% on your electricity bill" which was not the case and it was actually showing some dangerous wiring tactics. Read the actual threads here:- What should be the code for this - C2 or C3 - https://www.electriciansforums.net/threads/what-should-be-the-code-for-this-c2-or-c3.197405 Ladbrokes banner! - Dan is fixing the forum ads, and other things - Sorry lads! - https://www.electriciansforums.net/threads/ladbrokes-banner-dan-is-fixing-the-forum-ads-and-other-things-sorry-lads.197115/ I'd like to apologise for:- Not giving advance notice of me changing the way we display the pay-per-click advertisements Showing the adverts to those who have paid to remove them And for...

You can now link your account with social media by going to the following page. https://www.electriciansforums.net/account/connected-accounts/ We had this feature some time ago but I removed it when Facebook was found to be selling the data they collected without informing the users of what was happening. Thankfully that dirty side of the industry has been called out on and now shouldn't exist. I can't guarantee what the big techies do myself, I don't have social media, but if you do then your data is already in their hands and in that case perhaps linking your forum account to their systems may give you some extra benefits and allow you to quickly login the forum etc. Let us know if you have any issues with this. Oh, and the...
We've had our Electrical Videos section running for a while now and we proudly host a massive 4 videos. Whaaaat? Only 4?!?! Apparently so. Just the 4 then. The rest being embedded. Uploaded media: 4 Embedded media: 116 Comments: 62 Wondering if we can all give this a bit of a nudge and add all and any electrical videos you have on your devices. Perhaps you have already added them to YouTube or some other media site and can simply quickly embed them to our forum so our members can comment on them without needing to be registered to the existing host etc. Also, the new forum software has an awesome layout for the videos and comments. The developers are really working hard on this area of the forums as every single device that's...
Been playing around with a fair few blogs for a while related to this topic. UK Tiling Forum that is. UK Tiling Forum - The Tiling Forum for the UK, but also overseas too. Hmmmmm We started our UK tiling forum back in 2006, April 2nd I think it was. So nearly coming up to 15 whole years being the tiling forum for the UK. Literally. Our forum, like this Electrical Forum (now posting electrical news from any source by the way!), was the first to be online, and the first to gain traction. And generally when a forum does that, it works ongoing. We have tried to setup forums for various other topics, I own a lot of automotive-related forums that do well, and 10 times that which don't do well. Likewise in the construction industry we...
As always, you can either remove all Google ads and sponsors ads by subscribing to the forum: Subscribe to ElectriciansForums.net and Get No Ads! - https://www.electriciansforums.net/threads/subscribe-to-electriciansforums-net-and-get-no-ads.176537/ You can also use ad-blockers. That's fine with me. Another way before today was to ensure your post quality was awesome, and you'd automatically get stuck in the Esteemed Member group, which had about 75% less ads than everybody else (it should have been nearer 90% less but I'd screwed something up - sorry about that!). Though from today, those with X amount of posts should get no Google ads. The X is a figure that today right now is set at 1000 posts. So the day a person hits 1000...

There's now a toggle in each main orange forum category, click it, it'll minimise all forums within it for you. You can always toggle back if you want to look for a forum you think might be in one. This will NOT hide the posts from Whats New tab etc. It just literally lets your browse the forum homepage quicker. There are some forums that are setup for SEO and whatnot, that just don't warrant keeping really and I'll soon shift them around a bit and confuse you all again but until then, toggle them. :) Cheeeeeeers. P.S. Some more update information coming soon, but they are already in action so you might see them yourself from time to time. ;)
