When I were a Lad, many Moon ago, when I was an apprentic, worked an d lived in Bath, most of the work in those days for a jobbing Sparks, was in the local area Great Pulteney Street, Henrietta Street, only those in the know will recall the area, I got sent (I was only 17 ) to a house in GPS top floor to blank off some wall lights the Old Lady Owner didn't want any more, ( yes those type pf people did exist).
Wooden block screwed to the wall with porcelain connectors behind, Old Lady was so pleased with the finished item she wanted to adopt me. 1953 I seem to remember, anyone else of my age got any recalls? plenty more where this came from, if you want to hear them.
My life may have been different living there than a rough Council Estate in Twerton, anyone?

always remember, back in the late 70's , did a rewire for an extremely difficult customer. one of my first jobs as a self-emplyed spark.he was breathing down my neck all the time; everything could have been done better in his opinion, almost dented my self confidence. then he haggled over the price, even though he'd agreed beforehand. I couldn't wait to collect payment an d get out. so, eventually, having knocked 10% off the bill, he proceeded to pay me in cash ( this was before bank transfers and such, all jobs were cash or cheque), so he started counting out the cash,,...£10,£20,£30, all the way up to £1500 (well it was 70's). his mistake was to count out £20's instead of £10's. did i correct him? did I squat.

In my day it would have been difficult to mistake the white £5.00 notes they where huge. :innocent:
that's even before my time. the only £5's i remember were blue. hence the saying when selling stolen wheels in Toxteth... £ give us a bluey each"
