Hi people, just a quick question. I've ordered a couple of things online to go in my slowly expanding tool kit (I'm new to this game) and one of the things I ordered is a Steinel 1129 Voltcheck 3, link below. I only want it for testing for dead to make doubly sure that the circuit I'm working on...
Hello,
I have a Potterton Suprima 80E and it was functioning well today.
We had a power cut to the house and a few minutes later the power was restored. Now the boiler does not power up at all. No red led or programmer activity. Just completely dead. I have checked the fuse socket...
Recently opened a 2 gang switch on a landing. Had knocked out the breaker for the lights on the landing. Waved my volt stick in there and the other gang was still live as it supplied the next stairs up off a different circuit. Is this acceptable in the regs ? It seems to be a bit dangerous...

Or do you just test I.R to the starter, then I.R from starter to motor? (as the starter will be open when dead)
Would a motor come under "equipment vulnerable to testing"...

When testing for dead why is the use of a multimeter ( set to AC volts ) NOT a recommended method?
In the same vein can then a MFT als NOT be used?
Test lamp is the easiest but I am just wondering what the reasoning is for the other methods not being suitable?
Doubt this will mean anything to many of you but at 6.30 this morning, John Sicolo, legendary owner of the mighty TJs rock nightclub in Newport, passed away.
This might make sense to people like Pennywise and any of you guys who used to go and see punk or rock bands, or any of you rom Wales...
Just had to tell you good folk, I've just upgraded a PC with 2x new SATA2 500 Gb HDD's using the Western Digital flavour Acronis disk utility. Cloned the both the (Maxtor) C and D drives and had the PC up and running in well less than an hour. Well impressed with it and dead chuffed. PC runs...
