We installed 30 x 12v down lighters in a kitchen a while back and the guy just asked me today would i put in LEDs , I know you can get 12v LEDs m16 but have never used them or checkled them out or I could remove transformers....

anyone any experiences with 12v LEDs

personally, i'd remove the trannys, change the lamp holders to GU10 then fit GU10 LEDs.

Even if the manufacturers say you can use standard transformers it will shorten the life of the lamp, so you should change the Txs for drivers and then you might just as well have removed them and used GU10, less work, less cost.

I would expect MR16 LEDs to be fine with the correct supply, but why add more hassle.

Not used them but they look generally OK, good brightness because of the 50° beam angle.
Seems the same size as halogens so easy retrofit, would not use the daylight ones for customers in general, they do not like them.
Crompton ought to be OK.

I was only a mate on that job too, an old school spark, and I told him and said no more as was his job..... 30 lights to change now sure ,

What's with the hatred for 12v down lights these days?

Personally I don't recommend led replacement lamps to anyone, I always recommend downlights which have been designed as led fittings to start with.
