Labeled Exterior Setup and NEC225.30 Question-page-001.jpg

Hey Guys,

Hopefully this picture is clear enough to read the text boxes (if not, the PDF attached should be clearer). I'm trying to get 240V ran to my detached condo garage in order to run my TIG welder and my plasma cutter. I live in Ohio, and I know they still operate under NEC 2017. I want to apply for an electrical permit, but before I pay for the permit submission, I want to be sure this is even POSSIBLE without violating NEC 225.30?? Could exception 225.30 (B)(1), 225.30 (A)(7), or 225.30 (D) apply here to allow me to run this feeder line to my garage? My HOA bylaws will allow me to upgrade my own personal service meter. Really, my HOA bylaws aren't a barrier at all for this type of utility upgrade. I'm just stumped as to how this can even be done without violating the NEC? I mention NEC 225.30 (A) (7) because I would be willing to buy a home EV charging station and install that in my garage. If, then, this feeder wire was ran to my garage for the purpose of installing a 240V EV charging center... wouldn't that allow me to run new feeders to my private garage space?

Thanks for the advice,
Nicholas

As long as you’re going to draw a permit, you can run power to your garage. Install about a 60 amp GFCI breaker and pull #6 romex underground approved. Buy a main lug only 125 amp panel approved for outdoor use. If you run into problems come back and let us know. You already have 1 ground rod at your service so now you need 2 total and they have to be a minimum of 6 feet apart and use # 6 bare wire to tie them together

The articles that you mentioned is for the power company and your main panel. Don’t forget article 110-12 states the you have to install ARCH FLASH stickers on both panel doors
