Discuss 250kW job metering set up? Numerous meters? in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Anyone know what the best metering setup is for a system of 250kW? Doing the G59/2 application and Looking at using 2 x inverters with a peak AC output of 122A/phase and 2 x inverters with a 46A peak ouput/phase. Should I meter each of the big one seperately on dedicated circuits and then meter the 2 small ones combined on another dedicated circuit(on seperate MCB's)? Any other ideas on how to do it easily? Would having 3 x meters be ok for receiving the FIT under the same 'system'?

Thanks in advance

Hi Morgan,

As fas as I know you can not receive the FIT based on multiple meters. You need only one meter connected to your 250kW system. Because the current is more than 100A and I suppose that your cables are more than 25mm2 (this is the maximum acceptable cable for Elster meters), you need a CT operated meter connected at the end of your system instead of a direct connected meter. Based on your maximum current per phase (336A), and the installed cable, you should find out the ratio of that CT meter (should be more than 336A e.g to 5A).

It's hoped that this helps.

Try Andy O'Leary at Sibert - we use 3 phase CT meters all the time.

CT's only work with AC, so if you'r measuring DC side, then you will need a SHUNT resistor, and some electronics to convert the voltage in to current, and the a suitable meter.

Hi Morgan - one option could be an Iskra 3ph kWh meter, CT-connect version, MID-approved, plus a 400:5A set of CTs (ring or split, up to you). Feel free to contact if you need support.

It is for the AC side so the CT meter sounds like the way to go. Thanks Sibert will let you know. Just gotta hope the DNO costs won't be too horrific!
