Shocking

What would happen to a dimmer switch rated at 250w Running 6, 50 watt downlighters 230v?
I think they must of been 35w lamps but have been changed to 50w GU10 halogen ones
any help guys

it would soon die or fry. with 300watts of halogen you need at least 500watt dimmer. go for 700watt, thats the closest you'll get. but you may have to fit a deeper box

and go for a rotary dimmer, not a push one. that way the lamps will last out.

not with halogens. you have to uprate by about 60% so that's about 470w. so go to nearest higher. i always add up my load wattage and double it

i like 1kw but the one's i can get need a 1" back box, never get em in a plaster deep

Dont suppose you know where i can get 2 gang 1 way also needed for 6 50w halogens

you can use a 400w dimmer that is designed for use with gu10's ive seen them out there but cant name the brand as i dont use them often

Used the click mini grid dimmers rated at 400 watt with out issues when controlling 6 gu10s, on 2 occasions.

The reason why I did was because Clicks tech dept said so.

Thx Amp, i knew they were some out there, although i read it on the instructions once when fitting them that they were compatible with gu10's and a derating factor wasn't neccessary.
