Came accross a re wire were the sparks first fixing had used 3 core cables down to every switch baffled as to why on 1 ways etc supervisor called it smart wiring ? Anyome else come accross this ?

i install 3c/E to switch as standard these days, for the very samereason... future proof for smart switches.

It's not four core, it's three core and earth. The earth is not counted as one of the cores, the exception to this being flex where we usually refer to a 3G flex as being three core.
I was being pedantic... ??

Its not the earth its the cpc ? always used to kill me when my college tutor used to say that with an old croaky voice after 40 smokes a day

i wouldn't be surprised if in a future amendment that it becomes a regulation that light circuits be wired in 3 core and earth for this very reason, so that every point has a at minimum a perm live, neutral and cpc, and a switched live where required.
