Hoping to get some info on 3 phase meters.
Family has a place out in the country. It needs to get the meter replaced, but seemingly it's a 3 phase meter.
Scottish Power has organised this but have cancelled the job as none are available.

So my question is, could the job not be done with an "ordinary" meter?
I'm told it needs a 3 phase model because of some old storage heaters.
The existing meter has 3 read outs - day, night, and control. It seems it's this 'control' reading that's causing a problem.

Would appreciate any info, thanks.

Meters are outside of anyone's control except for your energy supplier. You get what you're given, tariff depending (sometimes).

I can't think that it makes the slightest bit of difference to a consumer.

Thanks, agree with what you say,

The issue though is that the job keeps getting cancelled. The existing meter is faulty, so really needs replaced.

Hoping to pick some brains for ideas how to get beyond this. It's a worry not replacing a faulty meter.

In what way is it faulty?

3phase meters are not a rare thing, I struggle to believe there are none available
you just have to keep pushing your supplier

Thanks. This has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years.
I don't understand why they would choose not to do the job though. I wondered whether it might have anything to do with the changeover to smart meters, but I can't see how.

Are you sure you have your terminology correct? A three-phase meter (which woul be rare in an existing domestic property) is entirely different to a meter capable of three different readings, which is what you seem to be discussing??

I'm told it's a 3 phase meter. I wouldn't know how to distinguish between that and a 'normal one' And yes, it's a domestic cottage.

I've got a photo of the meter. Attached. From memory you need to press a button to scroll through the three readings.

That is a single phase economy 7 meter look at the top left of the meter

Oooo....kay....
Egg on face. I'm going over to the property on Thursday, so I expect some terse discussions.
That certainly changes the whole proposition 😀
Thanks.

No need for egg on face, was an easy mistake to make for a non professional. However - I'm left wondering why on earth Scottish Power are having difficulty in swapping it out?!

I certainly wasn't looking to create an egg on face situation the info on the meter might mean very little to you when it is clear and obvious to most on here
If you are told by Scottish Power that you need a 3 phase meter who do you believe it might be egg on their face and certainly not yours
At least you are now better informed for the next round with SP

The fact that it's also a radio telemeter could be part of reason for the availability problem, perhaps.
