A building has 1 3 phase thing in it and 3 fuse boards single phase 1 to each phase but they are going to turn of one board for about a year . How will this affect the readings as in bills
How does a 3 phase meter work

when 3p is used the excess current goes down the phases.

on single phase it goes down the neutrel

in otherwords there wont be any strange readings just a lower demand for a while

would this not unbalance the phases? not a 100% sure but i thought ideally you try load each of the phases the same
Yes it will unbalance as one phase will hardly be used ! The only thing that's 3 phase is a cooker I think . So even when that's used it will always be unbalanced

I[SUB]n[/SUB] = √((I[SUB]a[/SUB]²+I[SUB]b[/SUB]²+I[SUB]c[/SUB]²)-((I[SUB]a[/SUB]*I[SUB]b[/SUB])+(I[SUB]a[/SUB]*I[SUB]c[/SUB])+(I[SUB]b[/SUB]*I[SUB]c[/SUB])))

I am not going in to effect of a broken neutral on a star system. The voltage/current vector diagrams are interesting but not easy to explain.

Added to which the OP could ask me a question but as he’s on my ignore list it could prove difficult.

They won’t let me in. I’d like to see what level the questions are at and more importantly the quality of answers.

But Marvo seems to think I’ll start savaging the Electrical Trainee’s. I’ll help genuine trainees but not them! I can look in the DIY section where I would run amuck if I could post, but not the trainee section. Seems stupid to me considering I’m a qualified trainer for apprentices.
