Hi can somebody give me some help with this one, a yard for porta cabin storage and external 32A sockets fixed around the perimeter although the sockets are rated at 32A they have 16A mcb's fitted in the enclosure. leads are then run out to test the cabins and do maintenance, although the cabins have there own rcd protection should the trailing lead also be protected by an rcd at 30mA as vehicles drive around the site. there electrician kicked off when we were installing rcd's as he said he could not now test the cabins 5x trip.
many thanks.

411.3.3 Additional protection

In a.c. systems, additional protection by means of an RCD in accordance with Regulation 415.1 shall be provided for:

(i) socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 20 A that are for use by ordinary persons and are intended for general use, and
(ii) mobile equipment with a current rating not exceeding 32 A for use outdoors.

An exception to (i) is permitted for:

(a) socket-outlets for use under the supervision of skilled or instructed persons, or
(b) a specific labelled or otherwise suitably identified socket-outlet provided for connection of a particular item of equipment.

Sticky one this, you cant really class a portacabin as "mobile" but as it's a socket outlet for use outdoors, there stands a possibility of other items being plugged in so I would be inclined to offer RCD protection.

thanks for your reply Lenny, that was my thinking, and the regulation i pointed them to, but need a bigger stick to hit them with.
