Hi thanks for the info. The capacitor is so small, it didn’t accrue that it could be a run cap. I’ll try your configuration and simulate a load. CheersHi
It doesn't have a start winding; the capacitor is a run cap because it's a permanent-split capacitor motor. I think your guess at the winding configuration is slightly adrift; based on the resistances the common between the main and aux windings is yellow. See attached pic.
It's an induction motor so the speed when off-load will be very similar on the three tappings. Only under load will you see much of a difference, and then the load needs to be well matched to the motor power to get the benefit of it. That's why a tapped winding works OK for varying the speed of a fan, which has a fixed torque/speed curve, but it's no good for a variable load as the speed is then unpredictable; a different method of speed control has to be used.
