Hi,
Any suggestions where to hire a 50V megger, I have a telephone installation where the BT fault checker is reporting low resistance and a standard multimeter can't do the job.
Thanks

I thought BT wiring was IR tested at 100V not 50?
The line rises to around 100V when ringing so it makes more sense to test at that voltage.

Ok, I will try 100V, I know it is not the main issue there is no ring trip there is a problem with the line card at the exchange, but untill all faults are cleared on the extension wiring i can't progress the fault. Bt openreach sent out a 18 year old "telephone engineer" who replaced the master socket and then did not connect the extentions as there were two sets of wires at the master socket plate. I was not impressed.

If it has a new master socket then they should be able to disconnect all extensions by unplugging the front part of the plate, then they can test everything on their side of the master socket without worrying about whats on your side. That is after all the whole point of the removable front plate arrangement.
