I have just installed the ohme 7.4kW home pro EV charger.

I plug the car in and it starts charging at 7.4kW, then slowly the charge drops. Perhaps over the space of 45 minutes it has gradually decreased down to around 2.5kW.

There is no CT clamp attached so no load balancing. It is also not connected the internet, i.e I am using it as a dumb charger rather than smart.

Just wondered if any of you guys had some reasons for this gradual decrease? perhaps if the car is almost fully charged it starts to decrease? that's a complete guess!

IS it in scheduled charge mode? it will be in red screen if it is? on the scheduled charge mode it will charge at the most efficient method/speed to reach say 80% etc....
Blue is normal charge until full or car says stop.
Have you checked the car settings?
I know you said no ct clamp but have you told the charger there is no CT clamp fitted?
The Ohme will always try to phone home as it were using the built in 4g comms. I would call ohme and speak to the tech team as they can dial in and see what is happening when the car and charger communicate down the CP link... quite clever what that little wire can do. Also double check you have exited set up mode.
One other question... what brand of car is it connected to... there is a weird fault on the software where by some kias decrease the charge rate to 0.5kw when the door / window is open - its not really that low but there is a glitch in the software which is being fixed.

Gavin! Thanks for all of that.
Pretty sure the screen was blue, but I will check tomorrow.
Yes, I clicked the 'disable' when it gave the option of load balancing in installer mode (i.e CT clamp).
I'm not sure what sort of vehicle it was. It was a small van. I'll check tomorrow.
I rang ohme today for some advice. They answer the phone almost straight away AND you get through to someone who knows what they are talking about ?

Could this be the normal charging curve of the vehicle? EVs ramp down the charge rate as the battery gets nearer full.
What state of charge was the vehicle at when it ramped down? 70%+? This would be expected.
It’s also why EVs should only charge to 80% on public rapid chargers when other people are waiting to use them. After 80 ish percent, the charge speed drops so much that it’s kind of a waste of time continuing to charge. And certainly unfair on anyone waiting.
