Discuss A good video about a 1920's lift including the slip ring motor in the Electrical Engineering Chat area at ElectriciansForums.net

Interesting stuff. That avatar of mine is a 'regulator', controlling the external variable resistance used to enable speed control of a slip ring motor. It's a Howells motor, the same make as in the video, on a printing machine, which requires controlling under load condition. The external resistance negates the inductive reactance (XL) created in inductance motors, thus enabling control as such.

'induction'...….. sorry about that!

Just the cogs of your brain reminding you -- To get things started .. Need resistance / for more inductance to get things started .. or your dealing with caged squirrels ...
Short of Torque !

Seemingly so......or just a reaction induced on re-reading...after spotting your 'thumb'.
Working on 'slip rings' I'm never short of torque, though ;)
