Hi Surrey spark. I guess the going rate is getting lower and lower, and your prices seem competitive, and for the market you are pitched in not at the lowest (cowboy) end but nicely placed to pick up some business. I guess it all goes on how many test you think you can do responsibly in a day. For myself I would struggle to be quite as cheap as that but its not a million miles away. The important thing is, if you are testing responsibly, you need to get a fair days pay and for me thats slightly cheap. maybe if you are one man band its ok. I wish you well!

Hi pattester, I have a couple of questions, hope you can help. I am a Maintenance Electrician and I carry out the Pat testing for my Company.

I have the C&G 2377 - 02 Testing qualification, do I need the 2377 - 001 management qualification as well, when giving retest dates I follow the Code of Practice guide lines and the paper work is quite straight forward, so i'm not sure if it is legally required?
Also when testing IT equipment, I use a Seaward Tester which has a IT test facility on it, but I'm still dubious about using it,especially on Hard Drives, so I tend to give a thorough visual and the test the leads. What would you recommend?
would be grateful for any info

Hi Ant. No problem using the IT test on hard drives, as long as the machine is set to that and no 500V insulation test is carried out - I would say continuity to 200mA is ok. I dont use the Seaward so not sure as to the settings on that machine. You dont need the management qualification but the question is how do you do results - is it churned out by the Seaward? You need still to analise results after testing and you need to tabulate them properly to give the correct paperwork - presumably the seaward has software that does that. mind you , you will find some appliances give weird results - how do you interpret them? - thats where the competency comes in. Basically if you are "competent" then its ok. How to know?? The laws are very grey on anything to do with pat testing - if you do it all/most the time then i would say you are competent.

cheers pattester

Thanks for replying pattester, very helpful and much appreciated.
