Hi all
Still getting use to this work....been asked to install 2 double sockets into a loft but no ring main running through loft area it all appears to run mid flooring for upstairs. Only lighting circuits in loft and all running through 20a junction boxes, I would have expected to see 5a? Any suggestions for how I might overcome this in order to install sockets?

Many thanks

Can you spur off a socket in a room below? use an fcu if you need 2 sockets though, any amp junction box can be used for lighting provided its up to the job of handling the design current, normally its only 5 or 6 amp for domestic lighting

Thats pretty mormal Rammie
Depending on your load required, you may not need a ring in the loft
A radial run up through a suitable cupboard off a socket then a fused spur feeding the attic sockets may suit

Beaten in a close finish
I concede

I always use 20a JB's for lighting, because the 5a jobbies are too small and fiddly.

If you run new cables to loft, dont forget to RCD them.

Cheers........Howard
