Hello chaps, and indeed, chapettes,
What do think o an Adiabatic Equation APP for the mobile phone? Does I take away any skills..?

Do you think that schools allowing calculators to be used at will decreased the maths skills of students?

I'm probably just getting old but I really don't see how using an app can make things quicker or easier the just using the formula.

I think there's an added problem with using electrical apps of any kind where you can't be sure that they're calculating the answer correctly. If the app is not well written it would be on your head if it gave an incorrect answer and there was a resulting safety issue or a resulting fire. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole unless they were distributed or underwritten by an official body who was accepting responsibility for their accuracy.

Fair points well made. I wonder what our Part P inspectors will make of them and what would they say if I used an APP for my certificates etc...?

marvo it depends on the app.

some of them get you to put in all the values so they will be right

Anyone would think it was hard!! By the time you've looked up / worked out the component values to enter then you can have done the actual sum in seconds anyway.
