Hey all,
I’m looking for some advice regarding my qualifications and registration. Here’s where I’m at:
• Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) – 600/5498/0
• Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) (2365-03) – 600/5499/2
• Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018 – 603/3319/4
• Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations – 603/1275/0
I’m looking to get registered with either NAPIT or NEICC, but it seems like I can’t do that without completing my NVQ Level 3 portfolio and passing the AM2. Is there any way around this, or do I just need to get the NVQ completed?
Is there a quicker way to get this done? Any fast-track options where you can pay to speed things up? I’ve heard some people just say they have 5 years of experience to get the NVQ, but mine hasn’t been that long. Is this a valid shortcut, or is it risky?
Also, I’m not interested in commercial work at all — I only want to stick to domestic. I don’t really get why there’s a distinction between domestic and commercial qualifications. If I’d been able to just focus on domestic, I’d have finished my portfolio by now. Anyone else feel the same?
Thanks in advance for your help!

The goal posts have moved several times so I'd suggest phoning both of the main schemes and asking them. I've always found Napit and NICEIC helpful on the telephone. The former was more responsive when I needed them to be, but it was the middle of lockdown at the time so it wasn't exactly normal conditions.

Only other thing that occurs is to get setup with liability insurance and a calibrated tester and start doing non-notifiable domestic work in the meantime.
