Hello all

I live in a remote rural location where it is troublesome to get good internet. We have tried a slow 3g router from EE and following this we suffered with a BT direct phone line internet which was the most painful experience ever !!

I plan to attach an external sma antenna to the highest point of our property and run a Cat7a ethernet cable into a 4g router into.

I know that this may seem like a non-electrical question but I am aware that some of you guys are super tech and specialise in fibre optic and such etc……….

I need advise or any recommendations please etc in choosing the best external sma antenna that is capable of connecting to multiple antennas as our location is equidistant between several antennas ( I think this may be called omni directional?)

I live in a heavily wooded location but can get good mobile phone connectivity – someone has told me to examine marine sma antennas but could give me nothing more…………I would appreciate any additional help or pointers

Thank you in advance for any help that you guys can provide

Cell sites don't work like normal radio, with my hand held radio I can go to top of local hill and talk to people miles away as nothing between us. But mobile phone does not work as it can't decide which cell site to select.

I had the problem with sat nav in the car, theory the built in sat nav should work far better than a tablet running google, but one of the little 3G routers on a anti slip mat under the front screen worked great.

So you can have all the theories in the world, but only real way is to try it.

My sister was talking on the mobile sitting on a seat on the sea front, and she lost signal, she looked around and could see some one else on the phone, so she walked the other side of that person and redialled and got through, and noted other person was swearing about loosing signal.

Sorry to say, only way is to try it.

I think your best bet is to use a high gain, directional antenna and choose one cell site to aim at. I did this is spain , when i had the same problem. Plenty available on the internet but quality costs, so dont go cheap.
