Their sole purpose seems to be to allow companies to hire and fire staff at the drop of a hat.
"Recruitment consultants" are slippery salesmen - they'll act like your best mate and tell everyone what they want to hear to get the sale; it doesn't matter if they then come up with the goods because they've got your money and if you don't like it there are plenty of other people who would be glad of a couple of days work here and there. They charge the client around twice what they're paying you so the client resents you because you're costing them a lot of money while the reality is you're getting paid less than the cards-in staff without the job security, holiday pay, sick pay, pension, van, tools, PPE etc.

I don't know anyone who would choose to work for an agency.

ive worked for agencies for the last 3 years. i like the variety of work you get, and meeting new people ect, but it can be annoying when your all over the place. ive been very lucky, in that ive only been out of work for a week due to no jobs. ive been on some reasonable contracts, earbing some good money, but also been on some rubbish ones, ie: shopfitting, for rubbish monmey, and being worked like a dog.
ive had problems with one agency not paying me on time, but on the whole ive been lucky.

as for the agency taking some of your rate, ive got it on good authority, that the large agency ive been working through for the last year, only charge 5% of our rate on top. by doing this, they increase their market share, and increase profits.

Hi Johnboy6083,

What agency is that you're with as I could do with finding a decent one? Like previous posts the agencies I have had dealings with are not that hot.

Regards

i work for meridian mate. they specialise in industrial and heavy industrial. they also pay fair rates, but will only employ JIB sparks and mates, in my experience. google meridian business support
