Alternative to a MFT

I am looking to get an alternative to a MFT for Christmas, as I don’t have the money currently to spend on one. Can anyone recommend an alternative to buying a MFT, with some advice as to what to look out for.

That looks okay, I've always thought that MFT had to be up to be the latest ones, to meet the latest regs: Megger MFT1741 Multifunction Tester - https://www.test-meter.co.uk/megger-mft1741-multifunction-tester/

Obviously, they will have some similarities, but what would you get with a newer one than that MFT 15th Edition?

I was looking at the Digital Multimeters, they are different than the Multifunctional Testers.

all you get is like the difference between a 1990 ford escort and a 2018 fiesta. both do the job, but the fiesta costs a lotmore.

A DMM will not perform the same functions as a MFT. It's a completely different tool.
If you are after a cheap MFT go for a decent branded second hand model, a calibrated one will save you guessing as to the condition.

totally different. if you want a MFT, source a 2nd hand 1552 or 1553. plenty to be had around the £250 mark. make sure it's got a cal. cert.

If you need a tester for actual inspection and testing, then you need an expensive one with calibration certs and can kick out 500v dc

Remember there is no such thing as an 18th edition tester!

i don't know the kewtek, but that looks good. i'd be wary though as it has no cert. for same price you should be able to get a calibrated unit..

We used one when we did our Level 2 practical Tel, it was quite good from what I gathered. I know a lot of people prefer Megger. I will keep an eye out on eBay and see, what funds are like.

Megger is to testers as hoover is to vaccuum cleaners.

I use Ethos testers bought from CEF.
Pretty basic, heavy and ugly... but I got them free from a closed down company, so can’t complain.

Di-Log are also an awesome budget MFT with all the features of a mid range tester such as 1000v IR and Auto RCD testing.
