There is a whole list of notifiable works and a very short list of non notifiable works, ie changeing faceplates etc.
That is unless you are going to notify via the local council
 
Works in : bathrooms ,kitchens, outside, CDU replacement , installing new circuits , minor works in special locations , just to name a few Des's link shows whats needed , in realistic terms there is so little you can do without being Part P regestered its just not worth not being
