Discuss And so the scaremongering begins in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

I agree whole heartedly with Andy. I think it presents balanced information designed to inform people of the changes, which is much better than the lack of information for the general public from the IET themselves.

I would say the word should is too strong: (maybe 'may')
"All new installations should now be fitted with arc fault detection devices (AFDDs) to reduce the risk of fire in final circuits. While commonly installed in other parts of the world as standard, within BS 7671, they were only a recommendation."
- where the last few words imply that it IS NOW a REQUIREMENT"

exactly.....and some people will use this info to hit people with a bill for around 2 grand for a new cu........WRONG

With the exception of making AFDD's look mandatory, as already mentioned, can't see any problems with this link.

It's another nail in the coffin for those competent persons who try to operate without being a member of a scheme though (I tried that - and gave up), but that's an old debate.

Can I give myself an 'old' ?
