Apple TV ?

Hello ,

Anyone know anything about Apple tv systems ? up to now we have been installing digital aerials and ran around for a few coax points whenever doing a re-wire on domestic properties , just started a new one and the client wants Apple TV installed ,dont know too much about it other than it requires CAT 5 to each TV location from a main Hub .....going look into it further of course as home media systems are ever changing and need to keep on top , just thought id throw it out there and see if anyone has fitted it ?

Apple TV does not require cat5e (6) connection. The units are WiFi enabled.

However,

When possible, I would always run network cables from a common place to all TV points for future use. Almost all new TV's can be connected to home networks and wired networks are far more reliable than wireless.

How does the Apple TV device connect to your TV? Can it be hard wired?

It's connected to the tv via hdmi I believe, then wifi to connect to Internet and mac computers to stream audio and video

Correct.

Apple TV (New version, what I have) is very small and only has three connections:

Power: Figure of 8
Network: RJ45 (Not required, if using WiFi)
TV Out: HDMI

WiFi is wireless. I would strongly recommend Cat 5e to each TV, and yes to the rest (Apple Devices & HDMI).

Yes we,ve put Cat 5 to each point so far but were unsure about the rest of the connections from devices ect ,,

hi,just to add you can only perform a jailbreak on 2nd gen apple tv

use cat5 its more reliable for streaming
they work with windows as well as mac's
if you have a old pc laying about install Freenas FreeNAS 8 | Storage For Open Source and use it as a media server/backup

btw you can jailbreak 1st gen.

You can to an extent there is limitations but it can be done in the same sorting method by 'logging in' to the firmware and carry out the necessary works. Whether you'll be able to use the same nitotv then use xbmc in not sure

Apple Tv is best in picture Quality if you want to buy.
