Evening all,

Do you have to pay apprentices while being in college (if so, how many hours). I know they don't do 8 hours a day.

Anybody know the Law on apprentice's and pay.

I'm not a tight arse but have an appy who is taking the mick in working hours.

Cheers

How is he taking the Mick Ross? He should feel privileged that he has someone prepared to take him on. I know when I was an Apprentice during day release, at least 60% of the lads took advantage of their position, I realise it's diiferent in today's workplace, how old is he? whatever age take him to one side and tell him like it is, be straight don't pull any punches, if he doesn't buck up sack him.
Not sure of the legal side of things nowadays.

You have to pay him 40 hours a week if he's fulltime, so yeas you have to pay him a days wage while he is at college, this is the reason you get a grant for them and they work for a much lower wage than a normal member of staff.
I pay my apprentice 40 hours a week and twice the hourly rate he should be on and a company van, you get out what you put in to someone , this is just my opinion.

I feel some people think apprentices are their to be abused or mis-treated, in some scenarios they are! Pay wise i think you know you have to pay him for his college days, it only seems fair. Treat them right and they will be prepared to work hard for you, a bit of the cold reality can help also. I remember loving the college days, warm day inside and a the fact you get a decent finishing time and not a load of grief of the gaffer for not reading his mind and having the gift of hindsight.
