Hello there, i recently arrived in the UK from Australia where I have worked for 15 years as an electrician.

Have just completed my 17th edition.

My problem is I am knocking down a small shed and moving everything into a bigger shed in the same garden.

I am really not up to speed with Boiler wiring etc. because in Australia we never have to deal with it,we just have reverse cycle air cons which we bring a 2.5 feed to and put on a 16A switch and that"s bascially it. Over here Its a bit different.

At present in the small shed there is a feed supplying the heater,a 2.5 SWA Cable. It is on a 20A in the board in the house. From the juntion in the small shed, power is being taken to the larger shed to feed power and lights.

As far as Im aware power cant be mixed with a heating circuit and has to be on a R.C.D here.
This is what im planning on doing

Im going to take the SWA cable that is feeding the heating and power and take the heating off it and make an outside junction in a weather proof box and extend the cable to reach the lower shed where im going to put a little fusebox with a R.C.D and a 20Amp for power and 6A for lighting.Im then going to put the 20Amp in the main fuse board on a R.C.D.

Im then going to run a 2.5 cable from the main fuseboard to the kitchen door where Im going to put the heating controls( inside run)
The main heating unit is now in the large shed and I want to control the heating from the back door so Im going to run a SWA 5 core from the kitchen door to the large shed and use this as my control wires.Im going to put the heating on its own 20A circuit in the board which is not R.C.D. Protected.

Would really be greatful of any advice on this,

Thanks ,Dave

your boiler can be taken off the socket circuit, fused down to 3A with a FCU ( fused connection unit). you are correct in your assumption that the socket circuit needs RCD protection (30mA). but there is nothing wrong with splitting the boiler onto it's own circuit either.

Thanks mate.

Im just going to run a seperate cable for the heating, should it be a 2.5 with a 20A breaker or just a 1.5 with a 6 or 10Amp breaker??

your choice. but fit a FCU at the boiler fused at 3A.
