light fitting has just stopped working, ihave checked and theres still voltage present at fitting, so.... my question is how would you test a ballast and what does a ballast actually do??? thanks if your reading this instead of bed with you gf/wife/boyfriend

you cant test a ballast!

change tube! check
change starter! check
change ballast! BINGO

alternatively normally cheaper to replace light fitting!

bought new tube , wasnt the cause ,
there is no starter on it, and i though ballast took away the need for starter... cheeeeeeeeeers this sat night

seems great and i do know is 58w fitting, is there much in changing one, just seen line and neutral comming out and into connector block. probably just a screw holding it in place, i hope.. thye dont hold a charge or anything do they???? i dont think so but il ask, aint had a shock yet

dead on told her new fitting was £30 in homebase which she was happy enough about, would you say is very likely the ballast, and theres no way of testing old 1? to give me a yes its broken before i order thanks for the conversation

i just go homebase half the time, i have few things to get this week so might go cef while im over that way monday.. 1 more question there is light fittting at front of house with the connection in connector block with just tape around, it is under a porch, so cant get wet, would indoor junction box be suffice for this in your eyes.. the whole house needs stuff done but im saving that for next year if i join a scheme
