Hi all,

I'm looking to install a basic (2 or 3 camera) home CCTV system. Having done some research I gather a lot of the wireless systems aren't the best and can be very expensive for what they are. Therefore I'm looking to install one (possible two) camera on the from of my property on the soffit and another at the rear of my property again on the soffit connected to a recorder in the loft. Having read through the forum and elsewhere online I'm very keen to get a Hikvision system as they have good reviews.

I still have the following questions:

1. DVR or NVR? Which is better?
2. What connection type? I have seen either BNC or ethernet type connections. Which is best? Ethernet would probably be easier.
3. Where is best to purchase Hikvision equipment? Most places online seem to be trade only. Ideally I'd like to buy a complete kit.

Appreciate any advice anyone can offer, had some fantastic advice from this forum in the past.

Question 2 will be decided by your answer to question 1

My preference would be HIK with NVR as you will not need the additional PSU that you would need with the BNC connections

you can get decent kits from ebay

I have this CCTV camera.
This is the feature, you can have a look.
1. 4CH 960P wireless NVR recorder,
2. 3520D processor and embedded linux operating system,
3. Support video preview/recording/playback/USB backup,
4. Support android/IOS/PC remote view,
5. Networking protocol: UPNP, SMTP, PPPOE, DHCP etc.,
6. 1 SATA port, 1TB HDD pre-installed, up to 4TB each, 2 USB 2.0 port,
7. Power supply input: DC12V-2A,
8. Power dissipation: W
I bought it from imeshbean, maybe you can have a look.
Hope it can help you.
