Hi all,
Quick question, client would like the extractor fan for the downstairs bathroom on a separate switch, as the noise of the fan keeps them awake at night if someone uses the bathroom, however, there are no windows so not sure how this sits with the 15 minute overrun requirement. Is it good enough to explain the requirement and leave it up to them?

Thanks

The "standard" way of wiring a fan to meet all manufacturer. / regs requirements is to fuse down the light/fan feed, then the light, then a triple pole isolator, then the fan.
If this arrangement is in place then you can isolate the fan when needed by opening the triple pole isolator.

So if you have the fan directly wired to the line / switched line of the light you can divert this through a triple pole isolator.

The customer could then disable the fan when required (for maintenance of course).

Then inform the customer of the 15min overrrun requirement and it is up to them after that time.

It would be better if you install a trickle constant velocity fan, say a greenwood CV100 if you are retro fitting, they are very quiet, it moves air at 10l/s.
10l/s x 60secs x 60mins x 24hrs = 864.000 per day

there is no reason not to control the fan with a separate switch, fan can still have overrun. it is then up to the user whether or not to switch the fan on.

Ceiling mounted triple-pole pull-cord isolator near to fan for mechanical maintenance. If you choose to isolate it at night to clean it then your choice....
