Hi all, wondering if anybody can help...

I have a circular socket for a light in the bathroom which is approx 10cm circumference. It has a small LED bulb fitted but needs a cover but I can’t seem to source the correct part.

Originally it had a square metal plate which fitted over the socket and then an oval shaped cover which screwed in over the overall socket.

just wondering if anybody has recommendations for where I can find an equivalent product as I’ve really struggled? Trying to avoid a complete re-fit.

Thanks.

I doubt you will find a replacement cover. I would recommend getting it replaced and by doing so you will discover how badly or well it is connected in the ceiling void.

Sometimes you can find an identical replacement fitting on the likes of eBay, and just use the cover. I've done this once where there were 6 matching lights in the property, and one had a broken shade.

Otherwise I'd not bother. The capsule lamps as used in this fitting tend not to be too long-lasting, as westward says, replace the fitting - for something LED, that is rated for bathroom use.

I think even the spider agrees with both above comments.
Is that a thumbs up I can see in the picture?

The spider definitely agrees - thanks for your comments everyone!

to clarify then, there is no standard part that I can just picked up from a DIY shop? Is there any reason for this? Thanks

99% of the market for lamp fittings is for mass produced cheap cr@p from China... so a complete fitting that you buy for say £10 makes no economic sense to stock replacement parts for... it's far far cheaper just to replace the whole thing. On the other hand... if you're buying a fitting that costs say £200.. there is a likelihood that spare parts may be available.

Ah I see, so the fitting I had would’ve been installed as part of the initial job and it’s highly unlikely I’ll be able to source spare parts?

is it a cheap job for an electrician to fit a new cover outright then? Thanks

It's a new light fitting that you need, not just a 'cover'. It should be a straightforward job for an electrician... there might be a forum member that's covers Macclesfield who'll come to have a look.
