Discuss Becoming Part P (Domestic) Registered in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi, i've had a look at the sticky regarding becoming Part P registered and still have a couple of questions:

I understand the insurance and the qualification/s needed parts of it, but was wondering whether the 2 jobs that you need to have assessed would need to be of a certain 'size'?

For example, can i go and change my dad's fuseboard and use that as one of the jobs, or would it need to be a complete rewire of a customer's property?

Is there any problem with using jobs done on your own property?

I ask as i'm employed at the moment and am looking to go out on my own, but finding 2 full rewires in the next couple of months isn't likely. That's why i was thinking i could rewire my house (needs it anyway) over a month or so and then change my dad's fuseboard for him and use those two jobs for the assessment.

Thanks.

Yes

No

Des sums it up. When i was registered, Elecsa told me that the work i showed them at initial assessment, and at annual surveillance visits had to be a fair representation of the work i would normally carry out. So if you register 10 rewires and then take him to see an outside socket spurred from a ring, it wont do.

They like it when its your own home as there is no extra travelling involved. Glance at your insurance documents, glance at the install, safe isolation (yawn), ask a couple of questions and they're off.

I haven't even been accessed this year and I renew in a month, I'm going to ask for some money back!!!

If you present mnor works they will probably only register you for minor works. Your plan is perfectly acceptable as the proposed jobs both fall into the major category
