Hi all

just a question regarding a consumer unit that I noticed on a job while carrying out a light fitting change. Would this be acceptable. It’s a proteus consumer unit. The tails come In from the bottom of the consumer unit and bend up to the right HS of the surge protection and into the main switch. Now from the right hand side of the consumer unit there is surge protection and then main switch then RCD and ways then RCD then ways. Now the way the tails have been brought in the are tight against the surge protection so the surge protection and main switch have slightly moved to the side leaving a 3 to 5mm gap and this gap has been filled with a blank. The cover goes on but u have to push MCB a to side to fit the blanks in. Plus having blank before surge protection. Would this be classed as a fail or not. I have opened up consumer unit and all connections are tight etc. But just getting cover on have to push mcbs to side a bit to squeeze in blanks. Has anyone else experienced this ? Thanks in advance

Sounds crap but also sounds like the IP rating has been maintained, what else would you expect from proteus...

Thanks for the replies. Yeah that’s my thinking can think of any issue with anything the way it’s installed other than tails should have been bent better but like you say IP rating maintained and don’t think there will be any real strain on equipment inside really as long as all screws tightened up ?

I guess the same as if you were leaving a negative review on eBay or Amazon, both easily viewed by anybody.
As long as it's just your own opinion and nothing libellous.

I’m willing to stick my neck out and say proteus is utter excrement. The worst of all manufacturers in my opinion.

If they want to take me to court I’ll lodge a counter claim after their poor design could’ve killed me about 8 years ago.

Have used the smaller 3 phase range(ABX)and I asked proteus why the N AND E busbars weren't numbered and why breakers and busbar could be

Hi guys thanks for the replies
I never fitted the consumer unit only noticed it when doing light install. When I see stuff like this i tend question it and see if any other electrician would have issue with it. Just seemed strange having blank right hand side of surge protector.
