Not a question, just an observation.
Working on a kitchen refit in a bungalow, up into the attic to find the ring circuit for sockets.
Came across a spur joint box, the J401 type with 3 terminations inside.... count the cables, 1, 2, 3..... 7!
7 x 2.5mm t&e in to one joint. Has to be a record...
Spoke with customer; "sort it out", "ok"
Safe isolation of supply procedures followed to the letter. I proceeded to disconnect the cables.
6 of the cables were actually only 3. The grey sheath had been carefully stripped off, about 100m length... The live and neutral had then had their insulation stripped to expose the copper. The cables then bent into place so the bare copper was in the terminations.
Someone took an awful lot of time to carefully remove the sheath and the insulation from 3 cables, for absolutely no reason.

Duly noted: take my camera everywhere.
I first thought it was 5 spurs off one ring final circuit, I had to check.
Luckily every cable that was connected into this was the same circuit... I wouldn't be surprised if they'de picked up the immersion supply on the way past

Talking of bodge jobs. Reminds me of a place I go to in North Wales: 30 years ago I started looking at their site wiring  talk about horror stories! One circuit in an old farm building still had ye olde silk covered rubber, sopping wet from leaky roof, which crumbled as you looked at it. Another circuit which fed a portacabin with toilets in changed cable type every 15ft or so: wondered why I was only getting about 170V when the 7.5kW shower, 3kW immersion heater and lights were on. Found all sorts from 1.5mm singles to 50mm 4c aluminium SWA feeding it. Incoming 1ph had blown the original main fuse so many times Manweb ended up fitting a 100A incomer. Home made 1ph-3ph converter used to draw 20A before any machines were started and rain blowing in some of the sheds used to leave the chocblock joints sitting in a pool of water in the trunking.
Managed to persuade them to get a decent 3ph supply put in and eventually got the site wiring up to spec. Wish I taken some piccys!
