Hi,

today at I put 4 down lights in a bathroom, the house had been rewires 4 years ago apparently.

lights etc were on non rcd side of board, total mess, no labels, no circuit identification.

anyway, move the upstairs lights to rcd side, go up and check bedrooms, yep work fine, landing light, oh it's gone off.

i look a bit further and there's only a sodding borrowed neutral.

i stuck a big warning sticker on the CU, and put both light circuits into one breaker on the RCD side just to reduce the chances if someone getting a belt.

It's just not acceptable is it!

Well no because the only way to put it right would be to put a new cable in between the switches, and as they have only just moved in and fully redecorated they didn't want the mess, what I have done is make it safer.

My point was, it shouldn't be happening, what is it with people eh.

I only briefly looked at it, but there was a twin and earth coming from downstairs to the switch, and a twin and earth going up to the light, only the brown wire was connected that went up to the light, the black was cut off, the other one, both were connected.

Without three core, you wouldn't be able to achieve two way switching would you? To be honest, I only made £90 on the job as it was, so wasn't really wanting to ferret around in the loft any more fixing that, as it wasn't really my problem.

Like I say, what I have done has made it safer and its at least labelled now.

Ive got to pop back to give them the bill so ill take a photo and you will see, nothing is labelled, its a mess, its all new colours, but its a mess, no way it was done by someone who cares.

i`v been rewiring a couple of flats ....

boards went in about 18 months ago i was told...

they had jointed the PVC twins onto a load of VIR under the floor....

the only RCD in sight was an RCBO in one of the boards...covering some of the VIR....so they knew damn well what they were doing...

6.0/2.5 50A MCB...

the list goes on...
