Ever since we moved into our new home there has been a problem with certain lights blowing. At first we thought it might be cheap bulbs so we we got some fancy led bulbs. That didn't solve the problem so it was suggested that it might be the light fittings. I have replaced all of these and the problem still persists. Both fittings use g9 bulbs but on average a bulb blows every couple of days. Works out quite expensive as you can imagine. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? And is it something I might be able to investigate or is it best to shell out for a local sparky?

How have you confirmed that the LED lamps have stopped working? It could be poor contact with the lampholder rather than failing lamps.

G9 filament lamps can be terrible, they suffer badly from vibration in the building from things like people walking around or doors slamming, so them failing after a few days isn't at all surprising.
But LEDs don't suffer the same issues, they should last a long time, unless the supply voltage is a long way out of spec, or they have been connected to a dimmer when they aren't designed for it.

In the same way the filament bulbs blew every few days the LEDs would go out. My parents have a similar light fitting so I tried the LEDs at theirs and confirmed they were all dead. I'm guessing this job is probably going to be beyond my basic/moderate DIY skills.

What brand of lamp are you using. Did they all come from the same pack?

There is very little an electrician can do to help, unless every lamp in the installation is suffering the same problems.

Do you notice lights dimming when appliances are switched on and off? Have you had any other appliances break down? I wouldn't rule out a neutral supply problem
