When fixing cables in a new build do you fit the cables straight to the wall and get the plaster to do his work over then or chase then out I know they have to be protected by trunking. Also in a studded wall do you need to put cables in plastic conduit for protection, lacking a bit experience here just done Part P course but don't cover everything.

cheers

Hello Peter.

In 1st fix on a new build we always install all cableing and boxes before the plasterer comes anywhere near the job. Cables are installed, boxes are chased in then cables are capped into the boxes.

With regard to stud walls there is no requirement to install in conduit, that's not to say you cant, theres nowt wrong with doing it.

Cheers.

P.S If studs are metal then I do install conduit drops.

Peter,

it all depends on the spec of the build.

If the internal walls are dabbed with plasterboard then i usually run cables down with capping, sink the boxes 10mm and job done.

If the internals are to be rendered and plastered, again, cables down with capping and sink the boxes so that the front edge is barely proud of the capping.

If the studs are timber then no protection needed, but if they are metal then i sometimes use Kopex flexible conduit to run the cables in. But that all depends on how many you need to get in.
