I've got this wifi module that is supposed to be able to be used on a 2 way lighting circuit.
I temporarily rigged it up to a mains plug with a 2 way switch and a 1 way as if it were on the stairs.A works well.then when i put it in situ it doesn't work I have a live and neutral to the switch both upstairs and down.I have attached photos for you to see how i've done it.Its got me beat why it don't work!

You said you had a neutral at the switch in your earlier post.

lookslikeyou have whatis termed a borrowed neutral. i.e. the landing light takesL fromdownstairs and N from upstairs. if so, that needs sorting out first.

What do you want this to actually do?

In the pictures in the OP it appears that you have wired the two way switches as normal then taken the switched live to what I assume is the common of the relay, then from the switched output of the relay to the light.
If this is the case then you have a circuit which requires the two way switching to be in an 'on' configuration and the relay to also be energised for the light to work.

This is only assumption, if you post a wiring diagram for the relay it may become clearer

I have been experimenting with the mockup of the 2 way lighting circuit with different lengths of cable.I turns out that the long length of cable which is about the length of the stairs didn't work where as the smaller length of cable (about 6ft) did work.Does this mean a volt drop is stopping it from working in the real situation?

DS, the module senses the status of the external switch(es) fed into its S input and computes the correct status for the lamp from that and the most recent wireless command. There need not be a circuit through the external switches for the lamp to operate. Therefore I believe the OP's configuration is correct in theory.

The problem is unlikely to be voltage drop. It might well be capacitive leakage across the switch cables if the input circuit of the module's S input is badly designed and too sensitive / too high an impedance. The longer cable has higher mutual capacitance between the cores and reveals the problem where the short one does not. A good test of this would be to connect a small load or even just a snubber network from S to N, to absorb the leakage, and see if that cures it.
