Hi
I'll be sitting my final exam for my 2330 lv3 course, I was wondering if I can then progress on to do my 17th edition and 2391 inspection and testing?
On the C & G website it says the 2391 is for qualified sparks. Does that mean I have to be working in industry to do it? Also another member in a different thread said
"2391 enables you to certify your own work" however I was told even after LV3 I'll still need the a GNVQ before am deemed competent enough to sign the EIC form.

take the 17th ( 2382 ). it's open book. you just have to know your way around BS7671 and look up the answers. the 2391 is being split up, unsure of the new numbers, widdler or sirkit will know these. you don't need 2391 to certify work, but it's a recognised qualification to prove you are competent at testing. however, it has a low pass rate, so i wouldn't rush into it. get some testing experience, supervised if need be, first, then go for it.

I'd agree with Tel, get the basic electrical qualification, register for the NVQ3 on site assessment, check your local colleges to see which ones do it. Take the Regs course (2382-12) as a supplement to your NVQ.
Get lots of experience and then go for the inspection and testing exam.

There are a lot of the pyramid salesmen out there who will encourage you to go for the 2391 because its a bums on seats course. But IMO resist the pressure and make sure you have lots of back up experience. then in about 6 months to a year, or when you really need this qualification, do both parts of the 239X series. 2394 for EICs and 2395 for EICRs.

or do as i do and write your certs on beermats in the pub after work.

at least it's pedigree ( marston's)

ah Ok Thanks alot. I'll be working for free reluctantly under a qualified spark. if I was looking for a spark to train under, how do I know he's qualified to supervise me? Would someone under the NICEIC scheme be sufficient?

See if writes his CV on the beer mats when you pop in the local for a refresher after work
or alternatively
Ask him where he keeps his credentials

I wouldn't suggest to him that it was debatable as to his NICEIC credentials.

Why are you working for free and how do expect to manage with your bills etc?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I wanted to know what qualifications the electrician/trainer need to have to train me to work within domestic and commercial environments.

patience, for one. seriously, you should be able to spot if he's any good by his work ethic and the quality of his workmanship.
