I have a metal lathe, 1.5hp, 3phase, 575v motor. Can I just replace the motor with a single phase,220v motor? Would all the lathe wiring , switches, relays work? IF so, what HP motor should I buy? Thanks,

unlikely to be that simple i am afraid.

you will have to change the main motor contactor, overload relay, lighting transformer.
this is a minimum for a bog standard lathe, there may be other things that need adressing.
