will be fitting a new ceiling light/fan, can I use the twin and earth lighting cable already fitted, ore will I have to fit 2.5 twin and earth cable. the specifications are fan 42w. lights 3x40w, total 162w. many thanks for any help/advice.

Welcome to the forum mate.
162W will be ok on the lighting circuit (Less than 1A), so you don't need 2.5mm cable.
What room are you fitting this?
 
As stated you should be fine with the existing

Now a question off me
What on earth has driven you to go fitting a miniature helicopter in your home
Personally I don't mind taking them out but I find it mind boggling when I am asked to install the same:)
 
Before fitting your new light/fan, take a picture of the existing wiring to the existing light. Label up each wire and what terminal they go to. This will help you with the wiring.
Please make sure the circuit it safely isolated before fitting the new light/fan.

Now you might realise these big fans are just there for dust to land on. Cleaning them is a bit of a problem.

Especially if you don’t turn them off first.
