Hi,
my friend has in his bathroom 12v halogen ceiling lamps. They got springs which hold fixture in place. I have no idea how to lift them up and dismount fixture without damaging ceiling.
Any idea?
Kind regards John

Hi Dan,
Thank you for quick answer!
I tried before as you said - springs are so strong and was damaging ceiling.

Try point the lamp out and putting ur fingers through the hole and lifting the springs that way.
Sometimes the fittings need twisting out as they don't have springs but wing type retainers?

Popping the lamp out

its a case of due care and attention here i`m afraid.....i know the feeling when they just dont want to budge..lol......what i find is that if you wirk one side away from the ceiling first.....enough so you can get your fingers behind the tophat....then steadily go for the other side....just tease it out gently....as soon as you can get it out far enough to compress the springs......then it should come out ok....nice and steady here though....

Hi,
main reason to dismount this spot light is poor contact in their sockets - from 5 spots only 1 working. That fixture has glass lid - if is necessary to replace bulb i only have to turn it. Inside is only metal strip in U shape which has bulb socket on top. This socket looks really cheap and poor. Any idea how to improve it?

solution. work from above. then replace all fittings and transformers with GU10 fittings with 5watt LED lamps.

It is plaster ceiling, I have no idea where is transformer-replacing will be difficult, could you recommend instead good quality fixtures?

generally the transformers will be close to each fitting. you can get replacement 12volt connectors or replace the lot with 240v fittings. if you go down the 240v route, i would advise getting a qualified sparks to do the job.

Which ever transformers u do get just make sure that when u push them back up in to the hole they are away from the fitting and not covered by insulation and hopefully this will make them last a bit longer
