Hi, don't know if anyone can help.
A plumber has just moved a hot water tank from one position to another. Originally it was a y plan, but now he has made it an s plan.
The existing boiler has got a pump overun on it.
All I wanted to know is if there is anyway I can get it temporarily running as I can't get there to do new wiring until Friday.
I know valves can be locked open, but just wondered if I could get boiler running off just its stat. Ie running it like a combi on a plug top and linking out switch live.
Can I run the pump of a permanent live so it is constantly running for the next couple of days.
If it's not possible they will just have to unfortunately sit in the cold for the next 2 days.
Thanks for any advice...

You could, but the customer will have to manually stop the boiler when the house is hot. I don't usually do temporary things on heating systems unless I have the cylinder stat operating properly to prevent the HW getting too hot. Fully working HW controls are mandatory if the cylinder is unvented.

Thanks for the info. I'm just going to leave it until Friday.
It's a long story, but the guy organising the work didn't co ordinate between me and the plumber and I can't even move stuff around. Feel guilty leaving people in the cold that's all... Thanks

I did something similar on Friday evening, water leaking into 3 port valve tripping RCD. Altered it so everything ran on the cylinder stat so there was a bit of heating and bit of hot water, customer to switch off fused spur when they were hot enough, boiler stat set quite low so it would keep the heating running longer. Good enough to keep the bloke from freezing over the weekend. With a bit more thought I could have done it with more control but it was late, I was tired and the valve was one of those Duoval valves that go round and round with the relay control box and I couldn't remember which were the switch wires and so on.

That's my excuse anyway. :)

I wouldn't like regulating HW on boiler stat. Is there not immersion back up?

Lock htg 2 port valve open, link boiler sw live and put boiler on plug top, set boiler stat no more than 2/3rds and don't worry about pump overrun if it's just for a few days.

Use immersion for HW otherwise don't let them have it. As already said above , particularly if unvented. ..
