Hi all

Just looking for some advice pls. I've been told that I need a new CU as the existing main switch has the wrong rating. Isn't possible to just change the main switch. Existing CU is Marbo.

Many thanks

Sorry for delay. Didn't think I'd get a reply so quickly. I'll give a bit more info. The main fuse is 100A and the main switch is 80A. It's in a residential property.

Hi Watson, remember your main switch is exactly what it says on the tin 'a main switch' all of your sub-circuits will be protected by MCBs/RCDs, in all likelihood your tails would be 16mm anyway. Obviously I haven't seen the job but I would guess you are ok with the 80amp main switch.

simple job to change main switch, but i would not bother. can't imagine a domestic drawing over 80A at any time.

Probably best to get a second opinion as has been suggested, if he's done work for you before then it can be assumed you are happy with him and there maybe an honest reason for him making the statement.
