Hello my name's Adam i have recently just left college and i'm looking into getting materials together so i can still practice differnt types of circuits on a big wooden board like i did in college. I was wondering does any body know which is the cheapest place to buy materials from in the St Helens area?
Kind Regards
Adam

If you've got a decent income try opening an account at a wholesaler, decent discount.

You could try B&Q, Wicke's. Them sort of places.

There is nowhere cheap to buy cable at the moment, afraid you will just need to shop about. I tend to find small independent wholesalers are cheaper than national chains. That said national chains often have good deals, so it is worth calling to find out what offers they have on.

I buy most of my accessories on line. Toolstation is as good as anywhere.

Thanks for the replys i will have a proper look around ive looked in B&Q and the price's are stupid cheapest ive seen is screw fix. would you say the same places for switches, sockets, consumer units etc?

If you are only working dead ie NOT connected to live 230 volts! Try local scrap yards. You should be able to pick up bits and pieces for about £2- £3 per kg. May work out cheaper. Most scrap yards will sell anything for twice the value they buy in at [they have to make a living!]

But remember you will not be able to guarantee BASEC approval or quality of cable. Should be OK for practicing terminating with though.

Alternatively contact local Sparks and see if they have any roll ends you can play with.

Good luck.
