Got called to a job yesterday to check 8 double sockets in a bedroom that had been installed by a bloke he knows a couple of months ago. As the room is going to be used for work and is going to have a couple of people working in there he wanted to make sure its safe.

To cut a long story short the fella has extended the ring to these 8 sockets however he has used choc boxes in two of the sockets to extend the cable.

Question is, is this aloud ? if not what would be the solution to extend the cable, when the floors are solid wood ! does not look pretty would be best to crimp ?

Any ideas ??

I would either crimp or use Helacon connectors. Sometimes connector block is a bit bulky to get into the back box. But i also agree now't wrong with it.

I agree with the lads as long as the connectors that are there are properly rated then there is nothing actually wrong. Wouldn't do it that way myself. I would crimp them or use the wagos.

With solid cores I wouldn't crimp personally. I've seen too many that have been slightly loose and have got hot. Stranded no problem, but solid? Not for me. Provided there is plenty of room I see no problem with choc blocks.

had a look a wago connectors which look a good idea. Question is looking at 3 core connector so would this be suitable to use to connect live neutral and cpc or would i have to buy three seperate singles. looking on a few websites and it looks like you can only connect three of the same wires rather than 3 different types. ijside the connector does it seperate the cables or are they all connected in side ?

my gaffer told me we got pulled on having chock block in the back of a switch box by the NIC inspection and that it must be a sealed connection i.e wago or crimp etc.
