Biff55 is your man, PM him.

In his words "if you thought the 2391 was tough, the 2396 is something else"

Not done it myself, one day hopefully will.

What's it about mainly
Is it useful ?
Does it follow on from the 2391 inspection and test

Is it true it's harder than the 2391 ??

Any information really or suggestions on better/ other courses to do

I did it at P&R Hurt in Yeovil, who i'm sure many are aware of on here.

The course itself was worth the money you spend, especially if you are progressing up through qualifications. Its really thorough on points of design and making you think outside of the box, i really enjoyed doing it.

Obviously now it's a level 4 qualification for the first time and the difference between the level 3 practice papers and the level 4 exam we took was very noticeable. There were absolutely no design questions in the exam and it seemed to be more about getting you to use the green book and your brain. I had big in depth questions on Medical Locations and switching as well as the usual cable calculations.

Even though you have the book, the exam is a lot harder than 2391. 6 people on my course and everyone was writing until the end of the 3hour limit.

As for the project it's mainly the same as before (2400 i think they called it) just updated to existing regs and including things like Solar PV and Overvoltage protection. Took me about 60/70 hours to do but i did it all by hand, no amtec or anything. It could be done a lot quicker. I passed the course first time which was pleasing, but i will get more out of the knowledge i learnt than the certificate at the end!

Think for me in scotland I'll need to do the 'Select' svq tailored course

Dont waste your money on anything Select.
Not the nationally recognised cert that c n g is but still priced up there.
What about all those guys that did the Select inspection and testing course and found all the job ads specifying 2391?

Boydy

I thought the new 2394/2395 was the new 2392....which was the new 2391...??

I'm not sure whether that's a joke or not, taking the michael out of the fact they change the courses that often that everyone seems to get confused.

I'll pretend it's not...(i don't mind the joke being on me)

The 2391 and 2392 were always seperate exams. The latter, 2392 been thought of as a level 2 qualification.

The 2391 has now been split in half to make the new 2394 and 2395. To clarify, the 2391 is the 2394+2395 rolled into 1.

the 2394 specialises in Initial Verification, whilst the 2395 takes on the Condition Reports.

I was considering the 2391-20 after doing the 2391-10 june 2010, and not long after that time was doing 2330lv3 and the NVQ 2356 as this is what I required to get my JIB card and electrician status not just DI ,and these courses were also ending or so I was led to believe only for C&G to extend them as I got a course on last day of registration at 3.30pm cant even tell you what I think of them or i will get banned lol, so held off due to costs of all the courses and to be honest was doing enough studying , but then C&G decided to end it and bring these newer quals which ended that

so I have considered the 2396 course as I enjoyed doing the 2391-10 and all recent courses but not the waiting until I had confirmation of passing lol I have the bug of wanting more knowledge
its justifying more expense for another qual
