Discuss Class II Door switch in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

That's my point earlier, if the manufacturer tell you something is class1 they should give you an earth terminal.

My guess would be that he either didn't specify which model of door switch he wanted to know about, or the person who answered the phone didn't know or was taking the mickey, or he has one of the metal switches they make.

I did specify the model, I don't think they were taking the mickey, and is not a metal switch. Class II accessories should have a class II symbol, it does not have one. The man from Jeani I spoke to was not aware of a Jeani door switch that was class II or that had an earth terminal.

I might be getting the wrong end of the stick, but it seems like you're trying to create a problem where there isn't one. Just fit the sodding thing! It doesn't need earthing. It has 2 terminals and 2 contacts - there's nothing to earth.

Should they? Pattresses and plastic switch plates don't have a class 2 symbol yet people seem to think they are acceptable in a circuit with no earth.

Just to be clear is it a jeani 143 switch? As that's what I've assumed it is so far. If it is then what exactly is it that you want to connect the cpc to? The only metal parts in there are the switch contacts and terminals.

Fair point. It would make sense if it is only the ones that are class II that have exposed metal that need to be marked as such. The guy from Jeani could be getting it wrong. I'll do a bit more research today and if I find out anything to the contrary I'll let you know.
