Discuss Code 4 on PIR for old cable colours? in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

H

honest jon!

Hi,
just about to do my 2391 test and suddenly had a panic about a trick question/observation on the PIR test rig. All cables are in old colours (red & black for single phase, red, yellow, blue for tp).
There is no notification of "colours to two editions of BS7671" as there are no new colours.
Is this just a code 4 "Does not comply with current issue of BS 7671".
Might seem picky, but do not want to be failed for missing an observation, but simillarly do not want to be failed for highlighting a code 4 which is not deemed a code 4 by the examiner:confused:!.

Welcome to the forum.

Irrespective of what you think an examiner will accept, if you can locate a regulation stating about the use of colours different to those present then you can record it as non compliance. If you are ever not sure about it, right the reg number down with the observation. It makes it harder for an examiner to use their opinion when marking.

Yes code 4 imo.

cheers guys.
ordinarily i wouldnt, but for the 2391 im wondering if they are trying to catch people out - if the colours are not to current edition of BS7671 then it should be a code 4.

seems to me a grey area, or is it brown, or ..........
