Planning a home renovation where about half the house is being significantly altered (moving walls etc). All of the wiring, outlets, fixtures, and switches in those alteration areas will be replaced and a new electrical panel will be installed. The other half of the house just gets new outlets, switches, and fixtures (plus fresh paint and a little floor refinishing).

I am unable to find any code based requirement to replace all of the wiring in the portion of the house that only gets fresh paint etc. However, an electrician is telling me that there is a code requirement to rewire the entire house.

Are any of the electricians here aware of any requirement to rewire an entire house based on square footage being altered as I've described?

Sounds a bit extreme to me but this is a UK based forum which does have a section for American queries which I have moved it to so hopefully one of our US members like @Megawatt will pick up on it.

Sorry for the delay but you can rewire what you want to and DO NOT have to rewire the whole house. Good luck

If it complies with BS 7671 I can;t see a problem
